    A Life Taken To Soon

I see the pain in your eyes as you take your last breath.
We see the signs that you are near death.
You are the rock that has held this family together for so long.
You did not know that the cancer grew strong.
You lay there in the bed looking fragile and pail.
I can see that your living in your own personal hell.
The words left unspoken as you draw your last breath.
We can see that the time has come for you to meet death.
The queen of our family has passed away.
Never again can we come over and stay.
I know that I have not been the best grandchild.
You loved me for being so meek and mild.
We will see each other again on that peaceful shore.
I hope it is you that opens heavens door.
I will keep you in my heart dear friend.
Until the day we meet again.

What a beautiful heartfelt poem. There was one error in spelling I spotted and that is the last word in the 5th line. Should be 'pale' and not 'pail.' Keep up the good work.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
