    A Dream Often Dreamed

    I'd spent long wasted days,
    and alone, slept at night,
With a fear of new love
and a dream I'd held tight.

    Not quite ready to feel
what I'd put on a shelf,
Yet I would'nt last long in life
    all by myself.

    I continued to dream,
one I'd hoped would come true....
    A vision of myself
    held by someone like you.

    Had that dream again,
since we met by the zoo.
Look again, at the one holding me....
    It is you!

I now live my worn out dream
    that you're carefully unfolding.
Hope it's the same as my dream,
"Dreams can come true", someone told me

If my dream you could see,
    you'd see you loving me.
    You'd see my love last,
forever it is and always will be.

I dreamed you let go the feelings
    that tightly you hold.
    It's a dream often dreamed,
    richly bordered in gold.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
