you stand before me

    you stand before me

    you stand before me
    waiting for sunlight
    you shine so brightly
even through the dark of night
    a flower growing innocently
    such exuberant beauty
    simple and complicated
    with strength and duty
    you stand before me
    wind of smiles gusting
    you live life truly
    timelessly and trusting
    your expressions so free
    your reflections upon me
    with cutting thorns
    when held poorly
    you stand before me
    breaking for nothing
    with fragile honesty
    your presence is lovely

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
