Words
WORDS
I once had a friend
Whose words flowed like honey.
He sold his words
For the love of money.
“Listen to me”
My friend would say-
And I will tell you
How to find your life’s way.
Try as I might
Meditating into night-
Those sweet sounding words
Just shut down my sight
And I could not use them
Anywhere in my life.
Instead of his sweet words
Leading me into light-
Those words of his
just gnawed on me
And oh what a bite!
For nowhere were his words
Reflecting his life.
His own sweet words
He did not own.
So this wise lesson
I learned from my friend.
Be careful what you speak
Or what you might write
For if I don’t see it in your own life
- I’ve nothing to gain!
