    Women

We are women and we are to be respected
    Not hollered or whispered at
    No not disrespected

We are equal to your kind
    Yes we have your babies
    Go through all this pain
We bring this precious baby into this world
But you know what I'm hipped to your game

It's the women that is up every night
When the baby is sick, needs changing, and is hungry
While your out there making the devil's money

    We can lay down together
    Go places together
But why can't we take care of a baby together

Yes I'm hipped to your game
And the lame excuses you give me every day
    To love, honor and obey
You do nothing but lie but that's okay
Because I'm hipped to your game.

You have babies here and babies there
And it's ashame that you just don't care
It's not the child's fault that you aren't there
So the child's blames the mother and that just ain't fair!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
