Walking on Fire

Poem Commentary

Inspired by the song "Walking on Fire" by Evolution

Walking on Fire

I can feel the drugs

Kicking into me

Only a small window of hope

Before I lose who I am

A small flicker of light in your eyes

Echoing onto something you can’t see

A spiral of ripples

A transformation

Time is slowing

May soon be over

Slowly melting over me

The wax of the burning candle

Dripping into the forming ripples

A warm liquid washing over me

Making me solid

Holding me still

Unable to push away

Under the tap of their feet

An echo above me

Forming into a word

Over my very being

Contemplating though

Maybe

I am not whole.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
