    turn the crank

    she was the first
    the first woman i'd ever
    really cared about
    she was really
    just a girl
    but
    i was really
    just a boy
    i'd married young
    divorced young
    felt achingly young
    still
    i was too old
    to be strung out
    on love drugs
    she'd just lost the needle
she got started on the pills
    found herself a speed daddy
    then disappeared
    before she left
    watched her age
    a hundred years
    watched her smile becoming empty
heard the ache in her voice
reach the ache in my soul
    but
    it was too late
    i couldn't give her
    a ticket out
she'd have to buy it on her own

nice. -I especially was tied to the last three lines.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
