    To Sparky, My Little "Sparks-a-Lot"

    You sat on my shoulder
    You sat on my lap
    You curled up beside me
    For your well-deserved nap

You cried when I left you
But you greeted me when I came back
    Love and devotion for me
Are things you did not lack

    My cat is now dead
And the world, it really does suck
    I think I'm going insane
    But, oh no--no such luck

I get to feel the agony
All of the grief and the pain
Not even one second of comfort for me
    Right now or ever again

    Yes, I'm being selfish
    I know this, but I don't care
    My little baby is gone
    And I'm filled with despair

    The other cats are okay
But they are not "The Sparky"
For you there was just one
    And that one was me

    "Time heals all wounds"
Is an adage that just isn't true
Because each day that goes by
Is just one more day without you

I wanted to write happy things for you
    Something light and carefree
The depression flows through my blood, though
So, sadly, that can not be

A toast to you, my dear Sparky
To all the good times we had
May you rest in peace, my love
And may you find your eternal heaty pad.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
