Through New Eyes

Through New Eyes

Through new eyes I see the world,
As though looking through the keyhole
of a vast door I have only just opened.

The squint of sunlight beckons me
to turn the knob and push it open.
Having come so far,
I'm afraid of nothing.

The only thing I fear is the hesitation
of overthinking things,
and forgetting to try the new--
since the old things have now melted in the sun.

Through new eyes I see you,
All of you as . . .
hopeful, afraid, needing (like me),
a word, a pat, a piece of starlight in words.
