    Poem Commentary

written to the father that walked out of his childrens lives

    dmore  2004

    They're My Children Now"

    They're my children now
    to have and to hold
I'll wrap my arms around them
    When they're feeling cold
I'll be there to comfort them
and chase away all their fears
    and I'll be the one
    to wipe away any tears
I'll be there to assure them
    that I'll never leave
and I'll always be there for them
    when they are in need

    They're my children now
through the good times and bad
    for now I must be
both the mom and the dad
    I'll be there to attend
    all of their games
    and also to scold them
when they call each other names
    I'll see the excitement
    of their first date
or when they blow out the candles
    on their birthday cake
    I'll be there for graduations
    and parties and such
I'll be the one to feel
    the grandchildrens touch
    to experience all this
    It's hard to imagine
    How someone could walk away
    from such beautiful children
    But they're my children now

    And that's all that matters

Oh the grand kids are the best part of a single parent. You don't have to leave to not be there. There is so much in life that takes us away from our children. Like your poem

Lovely poem. It's wonderful that you can be there for the children. They will be the future for tomorrow.

Poetry is what gets lost in translation.
