The Truth Lies

Poem Commentary

surely you've experienced the emotional elephant of an unspoken truth, yes? this poem was written as a kind of acknowledgement after a truth was spoken. Only after it was spoken could I express what it was like living with lie for so long.

The Truth Lies

The truth lies

The truth lies suspended between us
Hanging like some kind of web
Trapping in sticky resistance
Every word we’ve left unsaid

The truth lies alive in this present
Transparent yet viscerally now
Awakening each sleeping dragon
Speaking our soul’s sacred vow

The truth lies defiantly steadfast
Tripping up each lame attempt
Ignoring becomes our endeavor
Dissolving false worlds of content

The truth lies on the floor where we left it
Puddles in footprints where we yield
Splashes the days we remember
Soaking up dreams with our shields

The truth lies in wait for our bravery
Cloaking itself from false joys
Releasing is not near as painful
As when truth lies buried in noise

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
