    THE SPIRIT OF OUR FREEDOM

    THE SPIRIT OF OUR FREEDOM

I dreamed a dream the other night,
    About our nation, great.
    It started with our flag,
    Flying over a golden gate.

    Then I saw Saint Peter,
And he was beckoning to me.
    “Come along and follow,
For I've something for you to see.”

He led me through that golden gate,
And Oh! What a magnificent sight!
From the past, our nation's leaders,
Standing shoulder to shoulder, left to right.

Behind them stretched a great, huge throng,
Yet ordered, in rank and file.
Men and women from ages past,
    Mile after honorable mile.

I knew them then for who they were,
    Our Patriots, brave and true!
Each had given their very life,
For Freedom, Country, me and you.

No word had yet been spoken,
But I thought my heart would break.
The thought of all their sacrifice,
Was more than I could take.

    From out of the blue there came a voice;
A voice I had never heard.
'Twas God in all His glory,
    Thundering His immortal word!

    “What you see before you,
    I need not further tell.
Each has given their very best,
Proud and free before they fell.”

“With a single voice and Spirit,
    They answered their nation's call.
    Yeah, even more than this,
It was for FREEDOM, and nations all!”

“Go back and tell all others,
What you have seen this day.
    Tell them to take heed,
And listen to what I say.”

“This Spirit resides in all of you,
    So wondrous and bold!
I know because I put it there,
    To give you strength untold!”

    “The Spirit of Your Freedom,
    Is still alive today!
From time to time it seems to sleep,
Yet wakens fresh for another fray.”

“And do you not forget Me,
For I am with you still.
Seek Me out and I will answer.
That is My promise and My will.”

So now I come to you, my friend,
    With this story true.
Will you join with these brave souls,
And ask what you can do?

Have you ever felt the pain,
    Of all those gone before?
Have you let them die in vain....?
Or by your deeds, honor them forevermore!

Hampton commented on THE SPIRIT OF OUR FREEDOM

    09-17-2009

A patriotic gem of a poem coupled with sage advise from the one on high. 10 from me. I like your style.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

    Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
