The Path
Along the tracks
don't look back
The crossing guards are not for you,
Steep on the left
rough on the right
Along the tracks is no delight,
When the train comes by
the thunder rolls
With such a force
as to suck out your soul,
I live down and out
off to the left
Wish I could say
with some of the best,
The buildings are all old
having with-stood the test,
But they still provide homes
for the birds, bats and beasts
and some of us
at least,
This edge of the world
along the bay
Surely has seen
a better day,
But without hesitation
or a dash
I am going to keep
walking down that,
Not so garden like path.
