    The Man in the Moon

    Illuminating. The night skies
the Man in the Moon smiling down on you
watching the world with brand new eyes
sight in evening darkness, savor the view

at day a pool of Adam's ale
now a vanity for the face that shines
Sun goes down, new beauty unveils
the light of night reveals his grand design

those cryptic shadows on the wall?
    marvelous murals of inspiration
    lunar frescoes, ignored by all
    who slumber in oblivious fashion

a real artist, all through and through
    a secret, unappreciated boon
its time to give the credit due
with this stanza to the man in the moon.

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
