The Essence of Fear

The Essence of Fear

her cold, hard stare
in bullet speed
pierced the warm flesh of my heart
and captured, within its tight grasps
my beating arteries
as they screamed
for help, for mercy
as their their cries
became engulfed in the stillness of the night.

I cried
and like a soldier in a foriegn land
begged the enemy to let me go
as her claws
dug deeper into my flesh
and my will, in total surrender
bowed her head to the ground.

My legs, no longer
a pillar of strength
tumbled beneath me
like an avalanche of snow
as my warm frame
hit the cold, rough turf.

I fell, smitten by her lightening bolt
unable for the first time
to take control of my emotions
to be the leader of my country
the ruler of my destiny,

I remain, without her cold rusty chains
embracing my hands
and yet, as I glance at the scars
I feel her presence all over again
forcing me into a spiral
encouraging me to taste
the bittersweet nectar of her fruit
as she stares at me
with those cold, dark eyes
luring me into her world.

Such a description I have never read before. Bravo on this piece. Everyone knows where you are with this one. Good stuff lady, keep it coming.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
