    The Apple of my Eye

    Eve just couldn’t resist me
when she took me in hand.

    Adam couldn't refuse me,
    he was only human.

Trees shed leaves when they wear me
and your snakes, they don't scare.
I can even keep doctors away.

White as snow, she came near me,
bit so deep, fell to sleep.
There's a reason to fear me
when you slice me or peel me.

    On your teeth, Ill surrender
    but my seeds surely linger.
    I appear as do seasons.
I’m the cause. I’m the reason.

    Red is sweet.
    Green is sour.
    Yes, I vary by hour.

    On my skin you're reflected,
when you wrap 'round me tight.

So I ask you this question.
Would you care for a bite?

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
