    Tender Softness Turns Stone Cold

    Difference separates every person
No one’s alike in every portion
You expect everyone to be the same
Stare at life and think about it, it’s not a game
Nothing in this world was meant to be fair
Life is meant to hurt, so don’t give me that glare
Why is everything always your way?
You hold a grudge when I have something to say
No one in the world is exactly like you
You can’t accept that, other people do
We held something different, something strong
It holds tight, we’re glued as a bond
This is what I understand now about life,
Once one is told, it strikes hard like a knife
I wish to work this through fully
It’s hard to do that when you’re like my bully
You did something that no one else did
You made me fall in love, others thought it was stupid
Now that I fell deep you want to make me hurt
You want to use hate to rid love, well— my heart is now burnt
I am UNIQUE, why is that hard to comprehend?
You don’t get it, you pull down to offend
    Why should relationships have similarities?
It’s all over when differences bring torturities
My life is this, your life is that
We both can’t be one so you slam me with the iron bat
Now I understand how love brings hate
You were my perfect man, I wish it was fate
This is the worst I have ever felt
I know it’s impossible to solve this problem need be dealt
This world with horrible people is surely not my place
At least Devil in Hell is willing to accept this face

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
