Subsitute

Substitute for something else

Reminisce what it was

One and many others alike could speak

Of such an affair

Situation transpire

If there wasn't right means to do the feat

Entwine lies and deceit

There was the substitute

Came to claim reattribute

One who could take it all way?

Foot of the bed

Mirror reflects

Showing the neglects

Smeared make up

Figure in the shadows

With a lighted cigarette wallows,

Smoke being swallowed, back in

In his satisfaction

He broke her he saw it in her reaction,

Glancing at her at through the reflection

His mission was accomplish

She believed all the words

No matter how absurd

Took her into a fantasy world

Convinced herself that he was the one

Sought after for many time before

Yet he broke her and open old sores

Draining hopes and dreams

Inside she screamed

How to find away to redeem

She stared still at upon her reflection,

Mind distortion

Features appeared out proportion

Nothing ever appealing

Her opinion of herself was most revealing

Fumbled through her purse

Action she had rehearsed

Many a times before popped the cap of the bottle

Pull out the pills

Down on the floor they spilled

Leaned over picked them up

Convinced herself she was fed up

In one fowl swoop swallowed them

Lean back close her eyes awaited from them to effect

Long tired of the neglect

Being the substitute

Tears tricked only side of her eyes

All that came from within

Flash before her eyes

Slow rhythmic beat faded into background noise

She laid there poised

Let out her last breath said "Substitute"

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
