Steps
Drunk-like you moved along the kitchen floor
Two sticky arms outstretched
Wide grin upon your face
Testing you first steps.
Too soon I saw you running, hopping, jumping
Catching balls and butterflies,
Riding a silver-streaked bike
And fishing for elusive bass.
Now I look at you and laugh.
Why are you laughing, you sullenly ask.
Because you look so manly standing there
Gazing out the window, adjusing your only tie.
Because I,ve loved you for so long,
Because time has sped by much too quickly,
And childhood ways are gone.
And if I didn't laugh, I'd probably cry.
Two sticky arms outstretched
Wide grin upon your face
Testing you first steps.
Too soon I saw you running, hopping, jumping
Catching balls and butterflies,
Riding a silver-streaked bike
And fishing for elusive bass.
Now I look at you and laugh.
Why are you laughing, you sullenly ask.
Because you look so manly standing there
Gazing out the window, adjusing your only tie.
Because I,ve loved you for so long,
Because time has sped by much too quickly,
And childhood ways are gone.
And if I didn't laugh, I'd probably cry.
