    Soul

    My soul is hidden
    Residing in warm comfortable place
    Cloaked from view
    so fragile
    Behind a steel door
    Locked from the inside
    Shut forever
    Peek in the key hole
Try and catch a glimpse of my soul
    Wild like warm autumn winds
Shy like a kindergarten catholic girl
    Afraid like an animal
    Fragile like grandmas blue crystal
    I give my heart freely
    You have strength
    My heart you can handle
My soul is mine to keep
    Sheltered and Protected
Frightened from a life time of terror
I'll offer a glimpse every now and then
    Just to frighten you
See the nitemare that never ends
Does my weary soul sadden you?
Like a funeral on rainy days?
    You can have my heart
I give it as a gift
My soul is mine to keep

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
