shifts of you

Poem Commentary

about the fear of love and opening yourself to possibilities

shifts of you

you lurch

soft with eyes

watch from your perch

crowbar stare

pries then slips

behind my distrust

your intentions focus

on my life

sewn shut and

disabled by breathing

i’m senseless

as you shift ground

sliding beneath my

safe turrets

watching the

danger of two

people minus vision

my posture slides tectonic

my protection shakes feebly

10,000 aftershocks of you

arms I fall in

dreamless

homeless

wait for redefinition

love or path out

what of you now

standing in wait

for the cost of trust

not for sale

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
