    Separated by Heaven

    Then she let go...

While I sat with silence at my side
Where no sound could comfort me
No words to mend, no soul to lift my spirits
    No love to live again...

    And her hand slid slowly
The soft cotton, catching her by a thread
    A graceful interlude of passing
As she faded from my bed

And the weight on the pillow sank softly
As she settled with a grin
    Beautiful before and afterlife
    She ended like few begin

    She left me smiling
But I could not leave her the same
To live a death is unbearable
    As long as one remains

And love alone is so lonely
Sharing is what got us through
Now we are separated by Heaven
But wait til then, I will for you

This is so sad and lovely. I've never lost a love to death but I have lost love. You have a beautiful soul.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
