Poem Commentary

I wrote this poem my senior year of high school. Sam had been my best friend since seventh grade and I did what I swore I would never do, I fell for him. Long story short I ended up with a broken heart and losing my best friend.

what you'll never see
is the real me
I was always there
when things were to hard to bear
well other girls where breakin' your heart
I was there to warn you from the very start
and when they finally walked away
didn't I always stay
when you felt all alone
I always picked up my phone
then on one ordinary day
your smile took my breathe away
and my heart turned to goo
it finally happened, I had fallen for you
but you are in love with my best friend
I guess broken hearts is the new trend
all she does is mock you every day
and use you in every way
my only wish is for my favorite crocked smile
you best believe that i would run a thousand miles
just to see it one more time
a thousand mountains I would climb
but for now I will just sit and wait
and hope that you and me are fate
I love you now, maybe forever
I hope our friendship will never sever
I'd die without you
I know this is true
so maybe oneday you'll say it too

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
