    Reality

    Why should I pray,
When I have nothin to pray for?
Why should I keep my head up,
When there's nothin to look for up there?
    How can I stay focused,
When there is a knife in my soul?
    I don't know,
    So how could you?
I've got to come to grips with life
    And deal with the bull,
    And the never ending sorrow.
    My life is a waste,
    Unless a awake.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
