    Quarter After Three

In darkness blind, in shadows kind, our bodies, spirits meet.
Through talk, through touch, our souls connect.
    (Till quarter after three)
With easy tongues, dark truths we tell.
    Dim secrets we confess.
While eyes we fix and hands we touch, and deeper things express.
Into the night, we talk, we caress
    Tongues loose and bodies free.
    Minds, bodies, spirits mingling
    (Till quarter after three)
But night's kind shadows melt to day
    Dark yields sober light.
When we wake we clutch ourselves
to hide things bared in night.
The night, she gave us such liberty.
The night, she made us free.
But, in sunlight now we lie afraid
    of quarter after three.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
