    past is but a fingernail

Looking through the coldness in your eyes

Why did this happen and why is it alright?

Changing and shaping what you did to me

    It's done and over

    And you will never see

    Why did you do it?

Why did you do this to my family?

    Is it really alright?

    Is this really alright?

Why wern't you their the nights that I cryed?

Sitting in my bed scared thinking that I might die

Just thinking how much pain my mother can only take

    One rib broken

    A fist in her face

    Your only filled with darkness

    And no remorse

    Screaming and cussing

    Putting me down

Is that how you treat your own son?

Just hit me one more time

You hit my mother for the very last time

    A knife through my throat

    A gun to your head

    Holes in the wall

    Bruses on my neck

    Your gone forever

    Your lost forever

    Nobody knew why

    Nobody asks

    Hidden away

    With your own mask

How could you do this to my family and me?

Does it make you a man?

    Does it make yourself stand?

How does it feel to beat your wife down?

How does it feel to look your kids in the eyes?

    Its done and over

    And I'm that much stronger

    Your gone

    Your lost forever

    Your fucked forever

    It wasn't ok

    But were alright

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
