    Part-Time Dad

It was you that said goodbye; it was you that said we’re through,
And it was you that left though; I’m still in love with you.
It was you, who filed for divorce, leaving me to wonder why,
So please tell me why it is that daddies have to say goodbye.

Time heals all pain, is what people say,
But they’re not watching their son drive away.
He is just four and doesn’t know why,
So please tell me why it is that daddies have to say goodbye.

There is so much I want to teach him; so much I want to do,
I want to teach him how to run, climb, and how to tie his shoes.
I want to teach him to throw, catch, and hold him when he is sad,
But weekends are to short when you’ve become a part time dad.

I think it hurts the most when I bring him back to you,
And I can’t believe you don’t see the pain we go through.
I kiss him then turn away so he don’t see me cry,
So please tell me why it is that daddies have to say goodbye.

One day he is going to leave, and come live with me,
And maybe just maybe you will finally see.
As you are waving, and the tears flow from you eyes,
This daddy’s heart will hurt, because I understand goodbyes.

get on with your life and forget the crying. it won't change anything except yourself

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.

    T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
