    Pain or Pleasure

    Burning internally

    Stomach in knots

    Pain is all I feel

    Pain is all I know

    Alone yet again

    Left to my suffering

    The intense emotions slowly fade

    my pain becomes irrelevant

    When I speak to you

    I experience only happiness

    Your voice soothes my pain

    and suppresses my emotions

    No more pain

    No more emotion

    Until you leave me

    When you are gone

    My emotions are overwhelming

    My mental decisions are disabled

    As my body climbs subconsciously

    The breeze blows me forward

    and I fall

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
