    Onyx

    carefree falling
    into twilight fading
    to blackest night
    touching down
    waiting for the graying
    dawn approaching
    i am falling
    i am fine

    singing sweetly
    memories melodies
    trumpet shouting
    drums rhythmic hypnotic
    jazz darkly
    heart beat heavy
    i am falling
    i am fine
    f
    itting smiles
    mirrored eyes
    costumed emotions
    black is white
    white is gray
    red is blood
    i am falling
    i am fine

    i'm pulled inside out
    colored blue and turquoise
    dancing smoothly
    breath quickly
    turning swiftly
    freedom flashes
    i am falling
    i am fine

    coffee grounds
    transcend slowly
    filtering downward
    landing softly
at the bottom of the cup
    clouds my vision
    i am falling
    i am fine

    cigarette smoke rises
    inhale exhale
    calming heart beat
    relaxing my brain
    trembling my hands
    i see you
    i am falling
    i am fine

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
