One Lucky Immigrant

One Lucky Immigrant

Get a mortgage

Pay all my taxes

Take no benefits

Get all the blames

I am one lucky immigrant

Work my socks off not for a grant

Hold my job but people grunt

See nothing to what I have done

I am one lucky immigrant

Have a family that means grand

Came broke and come to the top

Make the country home

Take the oath

I am one lucky immigrant

Don’t do drugs, say no to gangs

Got kicks on my head

Being stopped for my skin

Still I am one lucky immigrant

They want us out

These said, those say

Damn easy jump on the bandwagon

Whatever it is doesn’t matter

Immigrants and all that matter

I’m not any bankers

But I could get in danger
Some want to show us some manner

Though we suppose to teach them the manner

Still, I feel like one lucky immigrant

Another good read. We are all immigrants in this life. Luck is the luck of the draw. Glad to read your work.

And I'm pleased to learn to be a minority in a foreign country. There are lots who have genuine interest to live peacefully and want to be felt accepted.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
