    Ode to Musky Jack

Tonight they found him in the alley out back
Just layin there dead Ole Musky Jack
Yeah. Ole Muskys gone now he wont be here no more
Stemmin his quaters at the barroom door
He's right up there now but I can.t help think
That he might be back for just one more drink
This morning I saw him bout quater of eight
He was shaking apart just waiting to get straight
His clothes smelled of urine his breath of cheap booze
He had two overcoats on and holes in his shoes
"Hey pal got a quater for Ole Musky Jack"
"I'll see ya tomorrow and then pay ya back"
"Hey pal cant ya help me Im not feelin so fine"
"But I.ll feel alot better with one glass of wine"
Ones all I need man, just one for today
    Tommorow I'l lquit Hey--Whatdayasay"
    I could'nt resist so I gave him a five
And Ole Musky Jack he just come up alive
He straightened right up and walked through that door
And I did'nt see Ole Musky no more
Yes tonite the found him in the alley out back
God have mercy on Ole Musky Jack

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
