    Night of Seduction (Maija)

    Night of Seduction
In the painting “Evening Glow” by Maija, jet blackness is all around. The amber glow of the fire dances in the background; the prickly pine needles scattered across the grass are the only thing separating her and the crackling fire. To comfort herself, she wraps in the warmth of her bear skin blanket as the cool night breeze kisses her naked skin.
There are shimmering images of the fire dancing off her silky-smooth shoulder. She hears the crackling of the fire as the cedar logs scream forth stories of wonderment of past centuries. The aroma of cedar fills the night air and drifts into her senses. The gentle breeze blows through her regal brunette hair causing the feather to whisper in her ear.
She gazes off into the distance, searching the darkness for her one true love. Her dark chocolate eyes show the longing she feels in her heart for the love that has yet to return. Her native heritage is apparent as the bone necklace caresses the beauty of her long, delicate neck; the bear skin blanket pulled up tightly to cover her bosom.
She feels the calm rising and falling breaths of her ever faithful four-legged companion nestled at her side. The moonlight shows the golden glow of his eyes as he peers out into the open darkness, ever vigilant of the dangers lurking just beyond eyesight.
The fire begins to fade as there is noise in the background. Just as there are no more dancing flames, the one for whom she so longed returns to take the fire’s place.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
