My Pride and Joy!

My Pride and Joy!

Another year has come and gone
if you know what I mean?
I can't believe how much you've grown
to think, "you've turned 14!"

My only son, my pride and joy;
"I'm very proud of you!"
For being smart and doing well
in everything you do.

This isn't much but with these words
I'm hoping you can find;
That sometimes though it may not show,
you're always on my mind.

When I go home I'll make up for
the times that we have lost.
I promise you, just wait and see,
no matter what the cost.

So keep in mind until "our time"
I just wanted to say:
"I hope you have a lot of fun
on your 14th birthday!"

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
