    My One True Thing

At first you were Summer's pet
For at least a month or two
    When she left home
Then it became just me and you
I fell in love with your big brown eyes
Your face, it seemed to smile
For many years, just you and I
    And sometimes they came home
But one thing was sure, I had you
    you now
Days turned to years, our hair turned gray
And never once was I alone
You slept above my head at night
And by my side each day and afternoon
Until the day it finally came
My worst fear had come true
Now I wait for the day when once again
I have you by my side
I am most sure I'll see you there
    My one true thing
    My Savannah

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
