    My Husband

If I took the time to tell you
    How I really felt
    It would truly take forever,
for I would never get to the end.
I have loved you for so long
    And I always will,
No matter what life brings our way.

This path was not all roses and rainbows,
And behind us lay the trials and tests we overcame,
Newly decorated as gifts, that made us strong.
We held on and walked with hands clasped,
    Vowing to never let go,
    And what seemed impossible, impenetrable
    Has now become our testimony,
    Our song, ours alone.

I couldn't tell you all the reasons
I still hold you in my heart,
For it would be a song that never ends.
    But as we journey together,
My hand still bound to yours,
    Just know that this anniversary
My heart will remain on this path with you,
and my song will never be done.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
