My Eyes

My Eyes

Sun set with the coming of Twilight

Giving way to the Night,

(I) Open My Eyes –

Amidst the cries of wants and greed’s

Not given away to the need

I lay back, awareness intact

Blood coursing through My veins

Feeling the softness of the sheets –

The calmness

Each time My heart gives forth a beat

Know that in Simplicity is Truth

Lest misplaced during the innocence of your youth.

In my hopes – I reason

(I)Close My Eyes -

Not to hide from what I see

The period in which I sleep

Experience the sound of silence

Know this and there is Peace.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
