Mushroom Cloud
I came to you broken and starving
Afraid.
And you wrapped me in the sanctuary
Of what was, what could had been
And I was hungry
And in my need, I fed
Perhaps too much and too well
And sleek and sated I lay
Drunk with the feel of your skin against mine
Both new and remembered
Like going home
Like finding home.
I fed from you too deeply
And suddenly,
If I’m honest willfully
The words hung there
Like a mushroom cloud
Against the clear blue sky.
And the flash of what…
Pain, longing, wistfulness,
In your perfect eyes
Cut me to the core.
But looking back
I couldn’t not say them
Because in that one, shining moment
Those words were the truth
Are the truth
For whatever that’s worth.
And I would trade a thousand more days
On this green earth
For the feeling
Of our skins melding, molding, becoming
One
Once more.
