Mood Swing

Mood Swing

My mood swings
From a fraying thread
Back and forth
Between humor and dread

I scream with laughter
Then suddenly sob
My mood changes faster
Than a heart can throb

I rant and I rave
I'm mad about all
Then suddenly giggling
And having a ball

It's psychotic
And crazy
Just being me
My mind's all hazy

And I'm sad as can be
Two minutes later I'm beginning to sing
From a fraying thread
My mood swings

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
