miracles don't just happen. death does.

    The wind never settling,
    the force getting stronger,
i avoid the spiral of death.
by now i would need a miracle.
but i know that miracles don't just happen.
    though i would need one.
    the wind increased.
i pushed back the force once more.
then i don't feel it come,
    i get thrown back,
    then i die.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
