Mighty Mountains Before Us

Right now this seems the most important thing to say
To people who have not been promised this day
But we shall prevail, because we are strong
Because we as blacks have suffered to long
We have come this far to freedom, and we are on the right track
We are climbing an climbing, and we wont turn back
We are coming, and we are going
We are strecthing, and we are growing
We must hold fast to our dream,we cant let it die
Because we will be like the broken wing bird, unable to fly
To him who has brought us thus far on our way
Keep us forever in our path we pray
If we can mend our broken hearts
Then we can grasp a brand new start
We have found our destination, and we have made a vow
Mighty mountains before us,and we wont stop now.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
