Memory Prison

Memory Prison

There is no prison as strong as my memory of you.
It holds me tight and has no doors that I may go through.
On lonely nights I gaze out through the bars
And stare and wish upon the stars.
I went to hell and back for you.
It was the least that I could do.
You taught me how to dream again.
I just didn't know how to begin.
Then you tore it all away,
Though I begged you please to stay.
And now I find myself so trapped because,
There is no prison as strong as my memory of you.
It holds me tight and has no doors that I may go through.
On lonely nights I gaze out through the bars
And stare and wish upon the stars.

I love this poem!! I love the flow and the beautiful thoughts about loss and memory. A great write with a wonderful expression of emotion. I feel you on this one. Well done!

Thank you. I've learned there is no prison worse than the one we place ourselves in.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
