    Lot's Wife

    Have you ever heard
    That curiosity killed the cat?
    Likely this is true,
But it did much worse to me.
    Curiosity goaded me
    Into turning my head
    To see the city,
    Once rich with sinners,
    Falling to the ground.
    Curiosity did not kill me.
    It ruined me.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
