Loosing a Lady

         Loosing a Lady

Today I lost a lady,
    she meant so much to me;
She's so cheerful and happy,
    the way they all should be;
She's sweet and she's gentle,
    loving and warm and kind;
The way I always pictured,
    a real lady in my mind;
But today she said it's over,
    because it had to end;
I hope she'll think of me often,
    because I'll alway's be her friend.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
