    Little Girl Lost

A little girl lost and alone
she has no dad to call her own
I pick her up and hold her tight
keep her safe with all my might
from my arms she is taken
like a bad dream, will I awaken?
eight years later a young woman I see
have I awakened from this bad dream
all my words they fly away
to this girl I have nothing to say
a second chance to say hello
    before I tumble down below
to say i love you to friend
before my life comes to it's end
is all I want and all I need

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
