    Like A River

Love, the essence of life flows like a stream.

There is no obstacle that in cannot overcome, consume or set free.

Gentle things are born along and carried upon its delicate surface, whispering, gliding softly.

The hard and obstinate are pushed aside by its force or simply worn away by water's insistence.

Driven by its own longing, it fulfills itself in the pull of the moon and the comfort of the sea.

You course through my veins, like water, you seek to drown me in your own desires.

Washing over me like a river, smoothing my soul, cascading and moving me at will.

Water longs to push ahead, to tumble and rush and end itself in an explosion of silver shining droplets that mirror and reflect the warmth of the sun.

We make our own beauty as it pleases us, an ever-present undercurrent that cannot be seen beneath its surface.

Nourishing growth, we bring to life things that were long dead, pulling and lifting souls that they too might join in this dance that captivates us.

In what it feels is the end of its journey, the river pours itself unafraid into the open sea to drift, and rest awhile, as in a lovers arms.

Then, roused from slumber, it is awakened by a soft kiss, a gentle caress as it trusts in the warmth of the sun to lift it upward and lay it gently on a bed of clouds.

Only to fall once again in a tempest, hard and driven, or as gentle as a mist.

It begins its journey once more, because love, like a river is…. endless

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
