    Poem Commentary

One of the many poems written when my mother passed.

    Life's End for the Living

Shall I weep tears of sorrow because you have gone from the earth?

Or shall I cry tears of joy because your soul is free?

Shall I curse the greater being for removing you from my access?

Or praise His excellence for the joy of memory?

Shall I be mad with a vengeance for the loss of my best friend?

Or be glad with  sweet thought that our friendship will last forever and a day?

Am I filled with confusion for a life to end so abruptly?

Or full of relief that no suffering was born?

Shall I end with this loss as an empty hole in my aching wounded heart?

Or begin anew with the knowledge that your guardian angel like presence is watching over me?

Cherish the memories and treasure the things she taught you. Love is immortal and can carry us though rough times. She awaits for your reunion someday. It is natural to have a grieving process but from your words I would think she would want you to live your life to the fullest possible.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
