Life

Look at all the fags I have smoked.
Look at all the hearts I have broke.
Look at all the pints I have drunk.
Look at all the banks I have broke.
Look at all the jokes I have told.
Lok at all the plans I have made.
Look at all the pals that have failed.
Look at all the seas I have sailed.
Look at all the letters mailed.
Look at all the photos fade.
Look at all the prayers I have prayed.
Look at all the wages paid.
Look at all the years I have craved.
Look at all the coffins in their graves.
Look at all the games I have played.
Look at all the songs I have song.
Look at alll the work I have begun.
Look at all the days I have passed.
Days I thought would always last.
Years that went far too fast.
Now I have been put out to grass.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
