Letter of Appeal
Letter of Appeal
Great men have left this shore before- unnoticed
Or perhaps with footprints fed as food to eternal waves
But a fortnight ago or so,
A man left this same shore,
With footprints that are now repellent to tidal waves;
He’s probably on his way now
To your magnificent throne
Dear lord,
He was said to have done many things,
He came into the world as Black
But left as White
Lord,
In your infinite grace
Be kind in his case,
He had friends,
He had foes,
But he touched both
He fed us the truth,
Even though we chewed on it,
We still swallowed it whole
He told us to ‘heal the world’
And we all agreed we would
But this man, left us all before we could
For how bad we treated our home,
He wept bitterly for this wrong
And sang us a piece called ‘Earth Song’
Dear lord,
After your only begotten son came,
This man ranked second in the hall of fame
Lord,
By now, you should know who I’m talking ‘bout,’
But if you still don’t,
Men simply called him:
‘The King of Pop’
These words
Are the teardrops
Of the last man to cry
