    Poem Commentary

I worte this for my dad. I love him a lot and we always talk about what would ahppen when my sister and i got married one day. He is the most woderful dad and i feel so blessed to have him.

    In daddy's arms

    I walk in the room.
    my first day of school.
My small hand inclosed in his.
With him the mosters cant get me.
With him the darkness holds no scare
because in my daddy's arms i am safe.

High school begins, not knowing what to do.
The silly young boy breaks my heart because
    I wouldnt give in.
The tears stream my face and my daddy holds me close.
Telling me its his lose, he is missing out
becuase I am wonderfully and perfectly made.
The tears slowy subside as he hugs me.
For now i remember the thing i should never forget,
That in my daddy's arms I am safe.

There i am all dressed in an elegant white.
Ready to go, ready to wed.
    He takes me arm,
    though tears streak his face
    and petals caress his feet
he walks proud of his girl.
and slowly, with a kiss on the cheek
    he gives her away.
Then it is time, i dance in his arms.
    No one can harm me
    nothing can touch me
I love you dad I whisper as we dance

For i know that no matter what i am safe in Daddy's arms.

    Thank you

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
