I Remember

I Remember

I remember your smile, it was quite charming.
Your laugh was contagious; your face, heart-warming.
I remember how excited you were Christmas morning.
Now, four years later, I'm still in mourning.
I remember New Years Eve, we sang karoake.
With confetti on your head, you were so happy.
You were so little, only six years old.
You were so loving, with a heart of gold.
I remember the very last day that I saw you.
We had a good talk, you wanted a sister, too.
You have what you wanted, your lil sis.
She's a lot like you, full of laughter and bliss.
I dream of you being here to be her big brother.
I know it can't happen, don't know why I bother.
I remember that day all too well,
And now here today I'm still in a shell.
I remember the day we put you in the ground.
I was standing there hoping that one day I'd be found.
I was standing there wishing that you could just stay,
But my only hope is that I'll see you again someday.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
